Frequently Asked Questions

Is this restroom finder free to use?

Yes. There's no account, sign-up, or fee required to search the map, use your location, or apply filters.

Where does the restroom data come from?

Locations are pulled from OpenStreetMap, a free, community-maintained map of the world. Anyone can add or correct a listing directly on OpenStreetMap, and the change will show up here once it syncs.

Why is a restroom listed here closed or missing?

Because the data is community-maintained, some listings can be outdated, and not every restroom in the world has been mapped yet. If you find an error, you can fix it on openstreetmap.org and it will flow through to this site.

Does this app work outside of major cities?

Coverage depends on how thoroughly a given area has been mapped on OpenStreetMap. Major cities and well-traveled regions tend to have dense coverage, while rural areas may show fewer results.

How does the 'Find Near Me' button work?

It uses your device's GPS, with your permission, to center the map on your current location and load restrooms within a few kilometers. Your location isn't stored or shared.

What do the filters actually check?

Filters match tags in the underlying map data: whether a fee is charged, wheelchair accessibility level, presence of a baby-changing table, 24-hour opening hours, and gender-neutral configuration. Not every listing has every tag filled in, so a restroom might still meet a filter even if it isn't explicitly labeled.

Can I use this to navigate to a restroom?

Yes. Selecting a listing gives you the option to open it directly in Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions.

Is my location ever stored?

No account or location history is kept. Location is used only in your browser, for that session, to center the map and calculate nearby results.
